Dr. Turnell of Macquarie University argues for economic sanctions against Burma’s military regime by examining some of the commonly-held misconceptions of sanctions. He believes that sanctions imposed upon Burma’s military regime by the United States, the European Union, Canada, Australia, and other countries are soundly based in the realities of Burma’s political economy and in his argument he has provided countering arguments to some of the principal arguments of the anti-sanctions advocacy explaining why these principal are misconceived.
