President Elbegdorj Congratulates Myanmar’s Pro-Democracy Leader Aung San Suu Kyi

On behalf of the people of Mongolia, Tsakhia Elbegdorj, President of Mongolia sent a congratulatory letter to Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, Myamnar’s Pro-Democracy Leader, ardent fighter for democracy and freedom congratulating and wishing her the best on the occasion of her being released from house arrest.

President Elbegdorj wrote: “Your Excellency, I have received the news with great joy that you were released from house arrest without any condition by the Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar. Please accept my sincere congratulations to you on behalf of the people of Mongolia and myself at this moment which is a result of your fight to create democratic values that respect human rights and freedom in Myanmar.

I am firmly sure that realizing human rights and freedom, and developing social democracy are the basis of sustainable development of every nation. You know very well that Mongolia and Mongolians fought and acquired democracy 20 years ago and have been working to strengthen and advance the acquired freedom and majority government system.

Your deeds to advance democracy and establish just and elective government have become examples for not only Myanmar but also Asian region and internationally. Your actions and activities have become the symbol of the nation of Myanmar and became inspiration for every person who fights for the well being of her or his people. The people of Mongolia value and support your persistent fight and heroic braveness.

I am sure that your determined actions for freedom and development of the people of Myanmar will succeed. I wish you health and your family all the best.”

In his speech at the summit of Asia-Europe Meeting in Brussels in October 2010, President Elbegdorj talked about the advancement of democracy in Mongolia at her 20th anniversary and expressed his position on current condition of Myanmar which had her first free elections in the same condition as Mongolia.

Same as Mongolia, Myanmar had her first free democratic elections twenty years ago and Myanmar’s National League for Democracy led by Daw Aung San Suu Kyi made victory. However the military authorities of Myanmar refused to accept the victory, and placed the leader of the National League for Democracy under house arrest. She has been released finally after suffering under house arrest and detention for so many years.
