The ongoing conflict in Kachin State has post a serious threat to thousands of innocent lives as the new Thein Sein government does not care about suffering of the ethnic peoples and have no commitment of democracy and national reconciliation. It still controls the system of government, including the courts and the armed forces.
The ongoing battle is due to Burma Army’s aggressive attempts to protect Chinese development projects near the Sino-Burma border. Local civilians have certainly faced the brunt of the conflict, with as many as 10,000 displaced and scores of human rights violations committed by Burma Army troops.
At least eighteen women and girls have been gang-raped by Burma Army and four of these women were killed after being raped, one in front of her husband, who was tied up and forced to watch. Another woman died from her injuries during rape.
Therefore, we Burmese democracy activists in India are staging a peaceful protest demonstration to immediately stop indiscriminate human rights violations by the Burma Army.
Please join and support us individually as well as circulate to your friends/journalists etc to be part of the protest.
Schedule of Protest Demonstration:
Date: 24th June 2011
Time: 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM
Venue: Jantar Mantar, New Delhi
