MDCF Calls for 24-hr Electricity and Cheaper SIM Cards

Forty members of Myanmar Democracy Current Force (MDCF) distributed pamphlets in four public places in Rangoon on 9 April to raise awareness about the issue of electricity shortage in Burma and call on the general public to protest the 200,000-kyat (US$244) mobile phones that they claimed the government is keeping the price high. This action led by Htin Kyaw, one of the leaders of the movement who called for reduction of commodity price before 2007 Saffron movement, calls for 24-hour electricity and provision of 5,000-kyat SIM cards that a private mobile phone service provider previously claimed they have all the means necessary to produce except for the permission from the government. Certain members of MDFC members had their pamphlets confiscated by a group of people in civilian clothes who they assumed to be authorities.
