Statement on Current Situation in Myanmar

By Generation Wave  •  June 12, 2012

We, Generation Wave, feel very sad about the current riots in Myanmar, which are damaging the lives of people and creating an unsafe situation, endangering lives.

In Burma, different religions and ethnicities have lived together for centuries. Our history shows how people from different religions and ethnic groups fought together against colonialism, in-just authoritarian rulers for the sake of our nation.

We believe that the main reason for the recent riots is due to the lack of the rule of law which is the consequence of the regimes mismanagement over the past decades.

Therefore, we, Generation Wave, strongly demand that the current government, minorities and religious groups work together to find fair solutions, implementing the rule of law in order to ensure the peace.

Moreover, in order to end the current riots peacefully and in order to stop the spreading of violence to other regions, we would like to request to all the people from different ethnic groups and religions to maintain peace with love and to avoid the propaganda which will only serve to increase our problems.
