Indonesian Foreign Minister Marty M. Natalegawa received Chief of Myanmar National Human Rights Commission (MNHCR) U Win Mra and Chief of Myanmar Women and Children Affairs Committee (WCAC) Mya Oo at his office here on Monday.

The first-ever visit by chiefs of the two Myanmar institutes in Indonesia for a week was intended to follow up the two visits by the Indonesian foreign minister to Myanmar in October and December last year, Priatna, director of information and media at the Indonesian Foreign Ministry said in an emailed statement.

The visit served as the start of a series of capacity building partnership programs between Indonesia and Myanmar, he quoted the minister as saying.

As Myanmar`s close friend, Indonesia had always committed itself to become Myanmar`s partner in advancing its socio-economic development and encouraging democratization process and national reconciliation, Marty said.

He added the visit was aimed at improving capacity in various fields particularly democracy, human rights and good governance in Myanmar.

“This visit is not one event. But it must be viewed from its further progress. We can learn and tap many aspects from it so we will know each other`s potentials in an effort to build mutually-beneficial partnership,” Marty said.

Therefore, he added Indonesia would always make every effort to encourage democratization process and economic development by improving Myanmar`s institutional capacity in the necessary fields.

While in Indonesia, the two Myanmar delegations will also meet a number of relevant officials, including the law and human rights minister, the minister of women`s empowerment and child protection, the president`s advisory council, the House of Representatives` Commission III, the National Commission on Human Rights and the Indonesian Commission for Child Protection (KPAI).
