The Kachin National Organization (KNO) welcomes the talks that took place between the Kachin Independence Organization (KIO) and the Government of Burma on May 28th-30th 2013 in Myitkyina, Kachin State.
The KNO believes that the best and only way to solve Burma’s longstanding problems of conflict is through political dialogue, not military means.
The KNO also believes that, in order to move forward with a sustainable dialogue built around trust and mutual respect, there must be third party involvement. This would ensure a clear political framework for genuine political dialogue, and an independent system for monitoring each step of any agreement.
Political dialogue must be inclusive of all ethnic nationalities of Burma and be based on the principle of a genuine and permanent Federal Union of Burma.
We urge the international community to help ensure the safety of Kachin refugees by supporting the call for unhindered access and provision of urgent assistance to those in need of humanitarian support.
