The Global Campaign Against Burma’s 2010 Military Elections now has a new website: www.burmapartnership.org/2010elections/ featuring:
- Background information and resources about the 2010 Elections and 2008 Constitution.
- Campaign updates featuring the efforts and actions of people around the world in opposition to the upcoming elections in Burma.
- Latest election news and links to other websites monitoring election news inside Burma
- Ways to get involved in the campaign, whether it’s sending an online postcard to your government or finding events happening around the world.
- Toolkit for activists. A compilation of resources to use in the Global Day of Action on 27 May and throughout the campaign. The toolkit includes position papers, posters, and much more. Other materials will be added as they become available.
- Media will be able to find campaign-related press releases and news coverage.
- An interactive map documenting resistance to the military’s elections inside Burma, supporting actions around the world and government responses to the elections. It will be updated regularly.
We hope this will be a valuable resource for activists from Burma and around the world, media, and individuals seeking to learn more about Burma’s elections.
In response to the military regime’s new election laws, the Ten Alliances of Burma’s movement for democracy and rights of ethnic nationalities with the support of more than 150 organizations worldwide launched the Global Campaign Against Burma’s 2010 Military Elections to condemn the upcoming elections as shutting the door to any prospects for genuine democracy and national reconciliation. The campaign calls on the international community to denounce these sham elections and refuse to recognize the results unless the junta changes course.
